Certain project types have unique requirements such as restricted hours, very tight security, or the need to work in 24 x 7 facilities with systems and people that cannot be interrupted. These conditions demand a higher level of technical coordination, planning, and execution than most new construction.
Technology-based facilities require dedicated resources due to the inherent challenges and complexities. To meet the needs of these projects CMI established the CMI-Special Projects Group (CMI-SPG).
Technology
The CMI-SPG offers comprehensive construction, consulting, site selection, and project management services for mission critical facilities such as data centers and telecommunications facilities. Principals of CMI have consulted for, sited, built and/or renovated over $2 billion of mission critical space and related infrastructure systems for a diverse group of clients in both the public and private sectors.
Methods of Procedure
When working in mission critical facilities it's not just important to thoroughly plan what you are going to do — it's even more important to know what you will need to do if something goes wrong. CMI has mastered the skills and issues associated with working in facilities with "can't fail" systems and equipment. We possess a thorough understanding of safe-time operations and have published thousands of detailed Methods of Procedure - plotting every move necessary to work in critical "on-line" environments.
Renovations and Modernization
Using many of the same scheduling, planning, and execution principles stated previously, CMI-SPG works within active building environments to deliver projects in a safe and timely manner. CMI has managed building-wide renovation and modernization projects, major building system upgrades, specialized renovation and refurbishment projects within landmark and/or historic buildings and large, multi-site capital programs for both the private and public sector.
Major issues regularly encountered by CMI-SPG include:
- Unique Security, Life and Fire Safety Requirements
- Indoor Air Quality Compartmentalization
- Pressurization and Control
- Preservation of System Continuity
- 24 Hour Supervision
- Special Tools and Equipment
- Logs and Emergency Call List Information
- Safe Time Practices
- Cleanliness
- Temporary Construction, Protection and Utilities
While not every client needs the services of a CMI-SPG, this elevated level of planning and execution has become second nature to CMI and a part of virtually everything we do.
